Marian Barnett’s art education was extensive, as she was gifted with a phenomenal sense of color, composition, form and detail. Florals, still-lifes, seascapes and portraits alike, flowed from her brush with equally stunning clarity and perception.
She moved to California in 1935, and soon became recognized as one of the state’s outstanding artists. She became famous for her palette knife renditions of Poppies, and her unlimited capability to capture the true essence and beauty of all flowers.
In 1958, Marian and her daughter, Marjorie Sharpe, founded a highly successful school of floral and still-life painting in the central California coastal area, which was widely attended by art students wishing to take advantage of the exceptionally fine instruction.
Several of Marian’s large florals have been reproduced in full color, and sold throughout the United States for many years. Subjects include Daisies, Acacias, Oriental and Mantilija Poppies. Her paintings hang in private and public collections throughout the nation and abroad.
