Note:     The wooden frame was carefully selected to complement “Viewing the

     Gift”.  It was handcrafted and was originally for a picture of the Barnum

     and Bailey Circus dated 1936 by Edwin F. Maxwell.  This would make

     the frame ten years older than the painting.

On the verso is a period tag which reads:

     Marie Haines Burt settled in College Station, Texas in 1921 where she painted, taught and exhibited for three decades.  She painted Texas landscapes and genre scenes, which varied according to locale, flavor and subject matter.
