John DeLane was born in California, and painted scenes of Yosemite and Crater Lake in the 1890’s. By 1919 he was living in Seattle, Washington, where he produced scenes of Mt. Rainer and the Olympic Mountains, which sold well to the tourist trade.
John was active in both Seattle and British Columbia through the early 1920’s. He became best known for his striking paintings of northwest landscapes, some of which included animals and Indians. A prolific oil painter, his composition and sense of color were excellent.
