THE WORKOUT was inspired by the artist’s commitment as a young man to exercise at fitness centers to build strength and maintain good health.

John Komisar was born in the south, but moved to the San Francisco area after graduating with a MFA from the University of Tennessee.  He has exhibited his work throughout the western United States, but mostly in California.  

Throughout his career, John has been an art instructor at numerous colleges, and given workshops, watercolor lectures and demonstrations.  He is still actively painting, and is currently an instructor at Chabot College where he teaches watercolor, figure drawing, painting and perspective drawing.
